The Lunar New Year Lookbook by Club21
29 JAN 2026
Dressing well for Lunar New Year has always been about more than looking good. It is a practice dating back to the Han dynasty, where new garments symbolised a fresh start and incoming fortune. As the new year marked the beginning of spring, so the act of wearing new attire signified a clean slate – becoming an integral and joyous part of the celebration itself.
Today, this tradition continues, influenced by modern sensibility. When you're navigating reunion dinner or multiple community-centred gatherings, your outfit should feel both occasion-appropriate and authentically you: striking a fine balance between festive energy and personal style.
Here, experts from Club21 style four festively-themed looks, sharing insider tips and recommendations: with the help of Club21.com’s new virtual try-on tool. This recently launched tool lets online shoppers upload any image of themself to see how items look on them without ever leaving the house, showcasing the progressive intersection between technology and fashion. Pieces can be “worn” individually, with the tool currently able to generate images for pants, tops, skirts, and dresses.
In this year of the Fire Horse according to the Chinese zodiac, themes of vibrance, daring, and adventure abound. Noreen, store manager at Club21 Four Seasons for over two decades, opined: “In the Year of the Horse, emphasise confident and energetic styles. Think of accent pieces in shades of red, or deep oxblood and purple hues.” Angelina, store assistant at Club21 Four Seasons, added: “I think outfits for the Lunar New Year in 2026 will balance both modern and traditional looks. Try comfortable silhouettes paired with simple zodiac details, which can make any outfit feel stylish and easy to wear.”
See Noreen and Angelina’s outfits below, styled using Club21.com’s virtual try-on tool, which makes online shopping extra convenient by giving shoppers a realistic preview of how pieces look when worn on their own body.

Festive Look
Angelina (A): The horse patterns on the Thome Browne polo shirt are a subtle nod to the zodiac of the Lunar New Year, without being overly traditional in using colours like red or orange. Paired with a sleek black skirt and boots, it is both chic and auspicious.
Noreen (N): I went for a sophisticated piece by Biyan, who is an Indonesian designer known for immaculate embroidery work. This look is modern, but its intricate detail and mixed patterns with dimensional floral appliqués make it a bold and festive choice for the occasion.
Feminine Look
A: Erdem is a London-based brand that is known for artisanal craftsmanship, quality fabrics, and delicate prints. I chose this ivory dress featuring soft florals and butterflies, as it is very graceful and ladylike, making it a refined look this season.
N: Self-Portrait has made a name for itself in timeless, elegant womenswear. This blouse is made in a mature wine red, and makes the outfit more visually interesting with its lace texture. It also has an encrusted neck detail which gives it a feminine slant. I paired it with a skirt to make an elegant ensemble.
Comfortable, yet Chic Look
A: Relaxed, flowy silhouettes are always my go-to for comfort. This dress by Cecilie Bahnsen is made from cotton and stretchy smocking at the bodice, and its soft blush pink colour is on-trend for the festive period. I would wear this for days when you know you will be feasting and mingling until late.
N: N21 makes contemporary Italian knitwear that feels soft and supple when wearing it throughout the day. This shirt has a navy blue base with contrasting light blue and yellow stripes, which is also easy on the eyes and is quite versatile to pair with other existing pieces in your wardrobe. Match it with something breathable on the bottom – like a light skirt or relaxed pair of trousers.
Unconventional Look
A: Heading away from typical Lunar New Year colours, I went for a Zimmerman skirt in an ice blue shade that features beautiful broderie embroidery. Worn together with classic black garments, it is a sharp contemporary statement look that is unorthodox, yet clean.
N: The Sacai skirt offers an unexpected pop of festive orange from its pleated side panels. I like that it is made from nylon, which makes the outfit feel more sporty, different from traditional Lunar New Year fabrics. The asymmetrical layering of the skirt is original and matches well with a simple white t-shirt or other fitting tops.

Putting together outfits for the Lunar New Year may be daunting when selecting the right silhouette, colours, and even fabrics, but it does not need to be. When in doubt, Noreen advises, “Go for a maxi dress with an interesting print, which will make you look sophisticated with minimal effort.” Shoppers can try on pieces on Club21.com for size, making holiday browsing handy in the comfort of home. Those in favour of real-life browsing can head to Club21 retail stores to seek expert styling from in-house assistants, and experience the textures and shapes of garments up-close.
“Pieces with horse patterns or logos are a smart and simple choice to ensure your outfit is occasion-appropriate,” Angelina shares. “You don’t have to wear bright red, orange, or yellow anymore to match the atmosphere, as long as you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing when seeing family and friends all day.”
