Five Days Among the World's Greatest Vines

Last May, four of our Comoclubbers experienced something extraordinary: a carefully curated journey through Burgundy that unlocked access beyond what is typically available to casual visitors.
This trip was led by Ignatius Chan and his wife Janice of Michelin-starred Iggy’s in Singapore, whose decades of professional relationships in the region made the impossible possible. They arranged tastings at esteemed domaines that don’t usually see many tourists: Domaines Trapet, Arlaud, de L’Arlot, Patrick Javillier and Laurent Ponsot.

A select group of Comoclubbers joined Burgundy expert Ignatius Chan and his wife Janice, visiting top-tier wineries and restaurants around the most prestigious wine region in the world, with COMO Le Montrachet as their base.

Clubbers were treated to an insider look at their wine cellars and tasted wines directly from barrels — wines in the midst of élevage, a term that means they are still being nurtured and won’t be released for years to come. Beyond the tasting, Clubbers gained valuable insights hearing the stories behind each precious vintage.
With just four participants, the experience unfolded organically. Questions lingered over a particularly exceptional barrel sample, discussions meandered from terroir to winemaking philosophy. The winemakers, freed from the constraints of larger groups, opened up about their craft with the kind of candour typically reserved for old friends.
Beyond the wineries, Clubbers dined at family-run restaurants selected by both Iggy and Janice, where the extensive wine lists feature iconic bottles on allocation, and where chefs understand that great food requires great wine. Ma Cuisine is highly regarded by wine professionals around the world, along with sumptuous farm-to-table Ferme de la Ruchotte and Bissoh Beaune, which offers exceptional Japanese cuisine paired with Burgundy wine.

The gem of the trip was dinner at Laurent Ponsot's beautiful modern winery. The tasting lineup featured twenty different wines representing some of Burgundy's finest expressions, with generous pours that were perfectly paired with exquisite dishes prepared specifically for the evening by Chef Thomas Protot from Restaurant La Cabotte in Nuits-Saint-Georges. What made this dinner special wasn’t just the wine (though the selections were indeed exceptional), but the warmth and generosity of Laurent and Iggy, who guided the group through each pour with the kind of personal attention reserved for their most treasured guests. By the end of the evening, Laurent led the happy group in a joyful rendition of the famous Burgundy La La La song — hand gestures and all — a ritual that celebrates both winemaking and camaraderie.
COMO Le Montrachet provided the perfect base in Puligny-Montrachet, positioned within walking distance of the legendary Grand Cru Le Montrachet vineyard. Between domaine visits, Clubbers explored the gently rolling Côte-d'Or landscape by bicycle, cycling past plots that stretched across the hills, lined with neat rows of vines — some over 70 years old. After a long day of food, wine, and exploration, Clubbers returned to elegant suites and thoughtful service at the hotel.
The five days the group spent together was an experience that went far beyond tasting. They connected to artisans who represent the highest expression of the craft of winemaking and a love for the land that produces some of the world’s most elegant — and coveted — wines.
